Stolní tenis je sportem, který byl zařazen do programu od vzniku ČHSO v roce 1991. U jeho zrodu byla paní Hana Svobodová, která byla iniciátorkou pořádání republikového turnaje ve Skřivanech. S turnajem souvisela organizační a manažerská činnost pro rozvoj tréninku v klubech, pořádání postupových soutěží v ČHSO od lokálních po světové, kdy se sportovci již stávají pravidelnými medailisty. Stolní tenis je v základní kapacitě delegace ČHSO na světových soutěžích, a to díky dobré úrovni sportovců i trenérů v klubech, bez nichž by se této úrovně nedosáhlo. V roce 2015 je ve stolním tenise registrováno 92 klubů.
První ročník turnaje, který organizačně zajišťoval SK Klokani Hajnice a členové SPMP Dvůr Králové nad Labem, probíhal v listopadu 1995 a od tohoto roku pravidelně v podstatě stejní organizátoři uskutečňují tento turnaj každoročně, a to za podpory města Dvůr Králové, základní školy Na Strži a v programu Zdravý sportovec za podpory Zdravotní školy v Trutnově. Tohoto turnaje se účastní v průměru na 150 sportovců ze 42 sportovních klubů. Vyvrcholením pořádání turnaje bylo uspořádání Evropského turnaje v roce 2005, kterého se zúčastnilo 21 zahraničních delegací a 22 sportovních klubů ČHSO.
Soutěží se dle mezinárodních pravidel včetně pojetí „unified“ (sportovec a partner), při čemž partner může dosahovat maximálně krajskou výkonnostní úroveň. V této kategorii se soutěží koedukovaně. Pro rozdělení do finálových skupin se užívá testů individuálních dovedností (IST).
